January 24, 2011 (Sampurn Wire): James Franco is innovative, unique and seems to be a multi-taker and ambitious 32year old. Apart from juggling some interesting film roles, and the process of bagging an Oscar nomination he has also joined the Yale University as a teacher. But at the Sundance Film Festival he premiered his film Threes Company: A Drama.
The film was premiered under the New Frontier program that has the innovative way of transmedia storytelling, playing with the three-dimensional structure of the image of cinema and exploring of the narrative structure of the film. Hence Franco has used the 70s hit show to bring in the dramatic value of the era and the series sans the comic element.
The innovation of the actor doesnt stop there; he transformed the auditorium into a living room, where four projection screens were used. According to James he wanted to suck the audience into the living room, since that was where they all witnessed the famous Threes Company. The 127 Hours actor goes on to say that the idea behind having multiple projection screens was not to have the show on four screens but to have the characters of the flick in each of the screen while the audience is in the middle of the living room.
Sundance explained the film as a flick that has an oblique way of looking at the 70s series, but while the film might have done away with the laughter, at the interview Franco was anything but serious. James put on the Suzzane Somers wig and had some choice words for the lyrics of the theme song of Threes Company; they were quite graphic and unsuitable.
