James Franco: Sexuality isnt black-and-white

6th January 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - James Franco has joked he might be just gay.

The American actor faces constant rumours about his sexuality, despite dating actress Ahna OReilly. The speculation is largely down to the movie choices the star has made as he has played several gay characters in the past, including Allen Ginsberg in Howl, activist Scott Smith in Milk and poet Hart Crane in his new piece The Broken Tower.

However, James protests that just because he is fascinated by homosexual characters from different eras, doesnt mean he is only interested in men.

Part of what Im interested in is how these people who were living anti-normative lifestyles contended with opposition, James told Entertainment Weekly. Or, you know what, maybe Im just gay.

James finds it amusing that society is obsessed with peoples sexuality.

However, he is troubled by the black-and-white way the subject is viewed, as he considers it to be a more complex matter.

Its funny because the way that kind of stuff is talked about on blogs is so black-and-white. James said. Its all cut-and-dry identity politics. Is he straight or is he gay? Or, This is your third gay movie come out already! And all based on, gay or straight, based on the idea that your object of affection decides your sexuality. (C) Cover Media
