(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Janet Jackson purposefully alienated herself from the rest of her castmates while filming For Colored Girls to immerse herself in her character.
The 44-year-old star plays the role of Jo/Red in the film, which portrays different personalities through a collection of 40 poems about how womanhood and skin colour impacts on peoples lives.
Janet is one of a high profile cast, which also includes Thandie Newton, Whoopi Goldberg and Macy Gray. However, far from rubbing shoulders and conversing with her fellow celebrity elite, the actress kept to herself in order to focus on her isolated character.
Ive basically tried to stay away because thats the way my character has been, Janet revealed. She keeps her distance, like I said, she wants nothing to do with that world, that life, so Ive kind of stayed away even if we were on set all together, just kind of stayed in my own little bubble, just to stay in character and keep that feeling, that energy.
Janet revealed that while the experience was challenging, she enjoyed making the film and giving it her all.
She believes that fundamentally the story is about bonding and closeness between womankind, which she highly esteems.
Its just about really bonding and having a connection and this community, this group of women coming together and really being there, Janet said. (C) Cover Media
