Jennie Garth: I resisted breakup

28th March 2012

Jennie Garth says it took her "some time" to come to terms with her split from Twilight star Peter Facinelli.

The couple announced that they had separated earlier this month after 11 years of marriage but remained dedicated to their three daughters; Luca, 14, Lola, nine, and Fiona, five.

In an interview with People magazine, the Beverly Hills 90210 actress says she refused at first to give in to Peter's request for a divorce.

"I was very resistant," she told the publication. "I didn't want it to happen. It took me some time to come to peace with it."

Jennie says that the family had dubbed themselves the Facinelli Five and she loved their traditions which included camping, movie nights and bingo tournaments.

But she says Peter's growing career starring in the hit movie franchise as Dr. Carlisle Cullen and his role in television series Nurse Jackie, meant that they spent increasing amounts of time apart.

"He would do everything he could to fly back every weekend," Jennie said about his work commitments in Vancouver and New York. "But it took a real toll on our marriage."

Jennie, 39, and her children moved to the family ranch in Santa Ynez, California back in 2010 and it is there that her new reality series Jennie Garth: A Little Bit Country is shot.

"I've gone through my darkest parts and I'm coming out of it," Jennie shared. "I'm okay. I don't know what the future holds, but then I've never been a planner. And maybe that's a good thing."
