January 11, 2011 (Sampurn Wire): The New Year has begun with a bang as far as 'Saturday Night Live' is concerned. The New Year episode began as host Jim Carrey (actor of films like The Mask, Bruce Almighty) took on the anchoring reins with Black Keys as his musical guest.
As per reports carried by Entertainment Weekly, the show raked in its highest ratings since last May and was watched by a huge chunk of telly viewers. SNL pressed the 7.8 meter rating in the metered-market household Nielsens. Only Betty White had fetched higher ratings when she hosted the show last season (May, to be precise) with the fantastic Jay-Z as her musical guest.
However, this is not the first time that Jim Carrey has hosted the show. He last played the host in SNL in 1996. This time, however, he had the audience in splits as he did a spoof of Black Swan. Carrey portrayed the character of a mock ballerina Lily and had chicken wings tattooed to his back. His efforts to tickle our funny bones succeeded as always even though he looked clumsy.
Besides, he also slipped into the garbs of a sex guru while Kenan Thompson played Grady Wilson. The duo did mock advertisements of DVD raunchily entitled Tantric and Tasty and Two Lumberjacks.
Musical guest The Black Keys showed their musical talent playing Howlin For You and Tighten Up.
