Johnny Depp cant leave character behind

17th February 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Johnny Depp slips into one of his more contentious past characters whenever hes in an uncomfortable situation.

The actor portrayed Raoul Duke in 1998s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, which was based on the book by Hunter S. Thompson. Raoul is an antihero and is based on Hunter himself, he is sharp-witted, egotistical and eccentric.

Johnny had a great deal of fun shooting the movie, and finds the character keeps coming back to him. He often answers questions under the guise of Raoul when he feels anxious or vulnerable, but its never a conscious decision.

It's one of the dangerous pitfalls of doing this for a living, he is quoted as saying. You feel infinitely more comfortable in the skin of your character than you do in life. There is one character that comes back to me quite a lot and that's this Raoul Duke - a Hunter S. Thompson character from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

The 47-year-old star has so far unsuccessfully tried to put a stop to the habit. He thinks its something hell continue doing for the rest of his life, but claims its no bad thing because it helps shield him from fame.

It happens just because you find yourself in certain situation where you don't feel you are capable to deal with it as you, he added. (C) Cover Media
