(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Johnny Depp admits that spending time away from his family is "almost impossible".
The actor has recently been filming new movie The Rum Diary in Puerto Rico. During the shoot he made sure his family came to visit him.
"I had the family down there for a couple of months," he said in an interview with ET. "It's almost impossible to be away from them, you can go a little sideways."
Johnny has two children with partner Vanessa Paradis. His daughter Lily-Rose is 11-years old and his son Jack is nine.
The Hollywood star drives his kids to school whenever he can, revealing it's an enjoyable experience for him.
"It's one of the greatest things I get to do as a dad," he smiled. "To see your kid go to be an independent kid, out there in the school block."
However, Johnny also confessed that his children are no longer so eager to be seen with him.
Like most adolescent kids they now find their dad embarrassing.
"It used to be walk me in' now it's like, No you're cool, stay in the car. I'll give you a hug where no one can see,'" he explained.
One of the reasons Johnny decided to work on The Rum Diary was to be involved with another adaptation of a novel by the late Hunter S. Thompson.
The actor had already appeared in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. It was at this time that the pair met and became good friends.
Johnny remembers the legendary journalist fondly.
"He was someone that I could call for advice," Johnny added. "He was one of my best friends in the world and he was someone that made me laugh. He was also a great man of wisdom, and I was able to sponge a lot from him." (C) Cover Media
