The Kardashian family is taking claims that their clothing lines may be manufactured in sweatshops "very seriously."

Star magazine reported this week that factories in China who manufacture apparel for the Kardashians' fashion brands may be using child and slave labour.

Executive director of the Institute for Global Labour and Human Rights Charles Kernaghan supported the magazine's claims, stating that the likelihood of this being true was highly plausible.

Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner is allegedly furious about the controversy, calling the allegations libelous.

"[The family] take this situation very seriously and have been assured by all of their manufacturers that the factories are policed regularly and there is no truth to these allegations," the Kardashian family representatives released in a statement to X17Online. "That said, we are continuing to investigate the matter and if there is any evidence of an illegal operation then they will cease work with that manufacturer immediately."

The Kardashians contend that they have not wittingly participated in any business that violates human rights.

It has been rumoured that the family are prepared to sue should these claims damage their brand's reputation.

Brands owned and founded by the Kardashians include K-Dash by Kardashian, the Kris Jenner Kollection and ShoeDazzle.
