Kate Winslet discusses divorce

4th October 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Kate Winslet has opened up about her divorce from director Sam Mendes.

The actress revealed all in a new interview with Harper's Bazaar. Kate admits that while filming award-winning TV mini-series, Mildred Pierce, the plot so closely reflected her own life that she barely had to act.

"There's a scene where Mildred and Bert are divorced, and they sit down together, because they've got to settle on a cause," she explained. "The first stage of my divorce with Sam came through on the very day that we were shooting. So that scene is nothing to do with acting."

The pair were married in May 2003 on the island of Anguilla, and had their son Joe in the same year. Kate also has a daughter with ex-husband Jim Threapleton - ten-year-old Mia Honey.

Sam and Kate announced their separation in March last year.

Kate explained that in the past she had tried to bottle her emotions, because she was scared of what would happen.

"As a woman, especially when you have children, one gets so good at soldiering on almost too good," she sighed. "Because you know what it's like as soon as you open that can of worms, it's so f**king big, you wish you'd never taken the goddamn lid off."

The actress is now dating Richard Branson's nephew Ned Rocknroll.

Despite the heartache that Kate felt at the time, the actress confirms that she and Sam have remained on good terms.

"One thing I will say about me and Sam is that it's fine, it's really fine," she assured. "We're grown-ups at the end of the day, and however hard it's been for me, it's been equally hard for him." (C) Cover Media
