(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Kim Kardashian is "embarrassed" about her short marriage.

TMZ reports that the reality TV star wrote to her extended family before she officially filed for divorce on October 31.

Kim announced her separation from basketball player husband Kris Humphries after just 72 days of marriage.

The star was apologetic to her family in the email.

"I would rather you hear it from me than someone else or the news," she explained, according to the site. "I know this seems crazy... I've spent the last few months struggling with my marriage. I'm embarrassed that I took everyone on this journey with me and had this huge wedding. But I have to be happy, so I have to let this relationship go."

The 31-year-old went on to say that 26-year-old Kris had changed over the course of their relationship. Kim doesn't believe they are compatible.

"Kris is a great guy but we come from such different worlds," she mused. "And he isn't what I thought when we first met."

After Kim publically announced the end of the relationship she flew to Australia. The brunette beauty was accompanied by her sister Khlo and her husband Lamar, who is acting as a bodyguard to the pair.

Kim officially travelled over there to promote her handbag line, but has admitted that she was pleased to escape the media speculation in L.A. (C) Cover Media
