Shah Rukh Khan's 'Om Shanti Om' and 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' released on the Diwali weekend, Salman Khan's 'Wanted' hit the big screens on 'Eid' and Aamir Khan opted to release his film '3 Idiots' and 'Ghajini' on Christmas. So, although unofficially, the weekends are usually called the 'Khan weekends' as this is when their big movies hit the screens.
This year too, Aamir's 'Dhoom 3' is all set to hit the theatres on Christmas and SRK will be releasing his film 'Chennai Express' on Eid. While Salman has not officially confirmed the release date of 'Mental', there are rumors of the movie being released next year for Repulic Day weekend.
But looks like Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan are shaking things up for the Khans, by entering their 'big weekend release' territory. While Hrithik has announced his film 'Krrish 3's release date to be the Diwali weekend of this year, Ekta Kapoor's 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again' with Akshay in the lead is all set for the Eid weekend release too. SRK is unhappy about the fact that Ekta had opted for the Eid release date despite knowing that the star's film 'Chennai Express' would be hitting the big screen the same weekend too.
The trend of upcoming movie trailers being attached to big movies release is sure catching up in tinsel town, and in fact it has turned out to be a great movie promotion platform for the upcoming films.
Riding on this trend, Ekta opted to approach Karan, who surprisingly agreed to launch the trailer of Ekta's 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again' along with the movie print of 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' and this was despite knowing about the fact that ‘OUATIMA' and his close friend SRK's 'Chennai Express' will be competing at the box office on the same Eid weekend this year.
This news has certainly baffled the media and the Bollywood fraternity, who have always considered the SRK-KJo bonding to be the strongest in B-town. SRK was also missing at KJo's birthday, citing reasons that he was busy with his movie shoot.
Guess now we know the real reason behind SRK's no-show at KJo's party, and it would be interesting to see how the SRK-Karan 'friendship' shapes up when KJo has openly opted for Ekta.
