Legal action against 'Phantom' by Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF)

28th August 2015

Kabir Khan's 'Phantom' starring Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif has come in trouble as the NGO Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) has decided to take legal action against the film citing misinterpretation of the NGO in the film, which could put the organisation at risk in conflict zones.

The film which tells the story of an MSF aid worker played by Katrina Kaif, joining hands with an ex-army man played by Saif Ali Khan to assassinate the masterminds of the LET who plotted the 26/11/2008 terror attacks on Mumbai has depicted Katrina handling pistols and rifles.

MSF said it had not been consulted over the content of the film and was not associated with it in any way. The humanitarian agency had "a strict no guns policy" in all its clinics and did not employ armed guards, it added.

"None of our staff would ever carry a gun. Any portrayal that suggests otherwise is dangerous, misleading and wrong," MSF said in a statement.

Further confirming their decision to take legal action against the makers of the film, MSF added, "We have contacted the film's production team and are taking legal action in order to correct this dangerous misrepresentation of our organisation and its work."
