(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Lemmy says he was blessed to work as a roadie for guitar legend Jimmi Hendrix.
The Motrhead frontman has carved out a brilliantly successful career, largely via that band but also thanks to the Hawkwind rock outfit.
But as a wannabe star himself, the hellraiser went to watch the Beatles in Liverpool before landing a spot helping The Jimmi Hendrix Experience on tour.
Speaking about those times, Lemmy thinks it was a rare moment and one that has stuck with him.
It wasnt a job, it was like being blessed. Seeing him every night or watching him strum or pick his Epiphone 12-string guitar. Just amazing. Youll never see the like of that again, the 64-year-old told Q magazine.
However, the musician says he wasnt that close to Jimmi although the pair did take copious amounts of drugs together. Lemmy argues he had to accept these substances from the legend as they went on massive hallucinogenic binges. I wouldnt say we were mates but I used to score acid for him; hed take seven and give me three. You had to take them when he gave them to you, that was the rule. Why? We were trying to get as f**ked up as possible, Lemmy explained. Also, they said that it didnt work two days in a row, so youd double the dose and by the end of the tour we were throwing them down like candy.
And the rocker, whose band is set to release 12th album The World is Yours, once took some clothing from a fledgling Jimmi. Lemmy says he parted with the items and has come to regret the decision because his counterpart grew into such a megastar. Hendrix gave me a couple of jackets, but one was too big and one was too small so I gave them away, he said. I had no idea what a legend he would become at the time, so I just passed them out to mates. Theyre probably in a charity shop now and no one will ever know. (C) Cover Media
