Lewis Hamilton admits that he still has "strong feelings" for his ex Nicole Scherzinger.

The Formula One race car driver and singer Nicole broke up last month after spending four years together as a couple.

Images of the pair having an ostensibly frosty reunion this week in Los Angeles have been disseminated across the media.

Lewis maintains that these images are not as cold as they appear.

"Well, they didn't catch us at the best of times," Lewis told British newspaper the Mirror. "What you didn't see is that we had a really good week, a couple of really nice lunches together. We had a really nice dinner together."

Lewis' passion for Nicole has not waned. Although the pair are officially no longer an item, the athlete has hopes that he and Nicole will get together again down the road.

"It's very early days and we still have very strong feelings for one another. I still love her very much," he explained.

"So, who knows? Maybe we will be together in the future."

In the meantime Lewis is focusing on his career. He is preparing to drive in his final race of the season in Sao Paolo, Brazil this Sunday and is happy with his prospects.

Lewis' meeting with his ex Nicole this week has helped fuel his optimism.

"[C]ertainly [spending time with Nicole] was a really positive few days which meant more to me than a race win, so I came away from LA feeling great and things are different, so that's cool," Lewis gushed.

"I've a lot of positive energy at the moment."
