(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Lily Allen has suffered a miscarriage.

The British singer announced she was expecting her first child with boyfriend Sam Cooper earlier this year. The pair were thrilled at the prospect of becoming parents, with the baby boy due early next year.

Lily was reportedly taken to hospital on Thursday morning after she began experiencing stomach pains. According to British newspaper The Sun, hospital staff battled to save the baby over the weekend, but were unsuccessful.

It is with great sadness that we have to confirm that Lily Allen and Sam Cooper have lost their baby, Lilys spokesman told the publication. The couple ask that their privacy be respected and that they be left alone at this deeply distressing time. No further comment will be made.

Last week, Lily cancelled an appearance at a charity event held over the weekend. Her spokesman said she could not take to the stage at the Grey Goose Character & Cocktails Elton John Aids Foundation event as she was suffering from a virus.

In December 2007, Lily revealed she was expected a child with her then-boyfriend Ed Simons. She miscarried the baby the following month, and has since admitted she underwent therapy to cope with the loss as it affected her so much. (C) Cover Media
