Liv Tyler: I want to support my father

22nd March 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Liv Tyler feels guilty that she hasnt watched every episode of American Idol since her father Steven Tyler started judging it.

Aerosmith rocker Steven was unveiled as a new addition to the programme last year, following the departure of Simon Cowell, Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi. Jennifer Lopez joined the musician and Randy Jackson on the judging panel and the trio have gone down a storm with fans of the singing contest.

Steven has been a particular hit, thanks to his quirky sayings, penchant for singing along with auditions and love of expletives. Liv is thrilled with the reception hes received, but worries she hasnt been supportive enough.

I haven't been watching every single [episode], which I feel really bad about, but I've been watching a lot and I love it, she enthused. I feel really proud of him and happy for him. He's had a rough few years, a couple of years in particular, and I'm really happy for him that he's enjoying himself so much.

Steven has battled addiction issues in the past, spending time in rehab in 2009 to be treated for a dependence on painkillers.

Liv is now thankful her 62-year-old father is feeling better and is able to show people how much fun he is. She worries fans often associate him with being a hard-living rocker and loves that his softer side is now more predominant.

He's so happy and naturally good at what he's doing, it's really nice," she told MTV News. "It's so funny for me, everybody keeps coming up to me going, 'Your dad, he's so sweet and he's so funny!' And of course it's the man that I've known my whole life, who tells all those kinds of jokes and has that big heart. I'm really happy for him. (C) Cover Media
