Mahesh Bhatt was born on 20th Septemebr, 1948 to Nanabhai Bhatt, a Hindi Film director-producer; direction was hence in his blood. He started off as an assistant director for director Raj Khosla. He debuted at the age of 21, with the movie 'Sakat' in 1970. The film starring Shabana Azmi and Vinod Khanna won two filmfare awards. His life took a drastic turn with the 1982 film 'Arth' which was a huge hit and a personal inspiration from his own life. One of his major stand-out film was 'Saaransh' in 1984.
Mahesh bhatt was not satisfied with being just the director. In 1987, he turned producer along with his brother Mukesh Bhatt and started 'Vishesh Films'. He produced many films under this banner and even launched his daughter Pooja Bhatt through his films. He even launched his nephew Emraan Hashmi through his films. Mahesh went on to win the National Award- Special Jury Award for the 1993 film 'Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke'.
In 1995, Mahesh Bhatt turned from the big screen to the small screen with the English series "A Mouthful of Sky" and the Hindi Serial "Swabhimaan". Mahesh Bhatt had more qualities in him than just being a director and a producer. In 1999 he made his last film 'Kartoos' as a director. He shifted his interest towards screenwriting and churned out many stories like 'Dushman', 'Raaz', 'Murder', 'Gangster' and 'Woh Lamhe'.
