15th March 2011
Manirathnam and A.R. Rahman have a great history to share as they together have streaked with big success in previous years. Starting from 'Roja' till the recent release 'Raavanan', it has been a tremendous success for them. But buzzes were that Manirathnam was looking out for Maestro Ilayaraja to score music for his upcoming movie 'Ponniyin Selvan'. Later it was announced that since Maestro wasn't willing to do the musical score, Yuvan Shankar Raja will take up the project. But now it has been confirmed from the desk of Manirathnam's 'Madras Talkies' that it will be A.R. Rahman scoring music. Since it's gonna be an international project produced at the cost of Rs. 250Crores, the producers felt that A.R. Rahman could be the best brand to promote the film on global front. It is worth mentioning that A.R. Rahman's previous Tamil album 'Enthiran' was the first Tamil album to hold No.1 position in I-Tunes Chart.
