Manto song 'Nagri Nagri' has a true charm of Bombay

3rd September 2018

Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays Saadat Hasan Manto a Pakistani Urdu poet in his upcoming biopic helmed by Nandita Das. While the film is awaited for a silver screen release after appearing internationally in most of the film festivals. The makers released the first song of the film that features Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Manto mingling around with the charm of the vintage city Bombay interacting with the known ones and also spending time with his love interest played by Rasika Dugal.

The song is sung by Shankar Mahadevan and the serene composition of Neha Khanwalkar make us believe it is a very old song from the past but it isn't. It is adapted from a ghazal written by 20th century's Urdu poet Meeraji.

The lyrics ''Nagri nagri phira musafir ghar ka rasta bhool gaya. Kya hai tera kya hai mera apna paraya bhool gaya,'' is absolutely thought provoking. Manto's supporting cast includes Rasika Dugal as the writer's wife Safia and Tahir Raj Bhasin as the actor Shyam, who was a close friend of the writer.

Manto competed in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. The film is set for a September 21 release. Recently, Nawazuddin Siddiqui was seen in Gadar fame Anil Sharma's directorial Genius that flopped miserably at the box-office.
