(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are teaming up for a detective series on HBO.

The two Hollywood stars will appear in True Detectives, which has already been picked up by the network for a full series.

According to Deadline, it has been agreed that eight episodes of the drama will be made. It is being written by Nic Pizzolatto, who is behind the critically acclaimed US version of The Killing.

"It centres on two detectives, Rust Cohle (McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Harrelson), whose lives collide and entwine during a seventeen-year hunt for a serial killer in Louisiana," reports the website.

The plotline follows police investigating a murder in 1995, alongside cops viewing the case again in 2012.

It's reported the incident will be solved in the initial series, with plans for it to return for more seasons where the same framework will be used to look at other cases.

The show will start shooting imminently, with Cary Fukunaga who previously worked on the 2011 movie Jane Eyre directing.

There has been a bidding war for the project ever since it was taken to networks earlier with month.

This will mark the first time Matthew and Woody have worked together on a TV show, although they have previously teamed up for movies including Surfer, Dude. (C) Cover Media
