(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Mel Gibson is locked in a battle with his ex-lover over their daughter's schooling.

The actor is currently mediating a custody agreement with Oksana Grigorieva for 22-month-old daughter Lucia. Oksana is keen for Lucia to attend a private school close to her home in San Fernando Valley. However, Mel is arguing the school is too far away from his Malibu mansion.

"Mel and Oksana Grigorieva are deep in the throes of mediation, and one of the big issues is where baby Lucia goes to school," reports TMZ. "Mel does not want to drive from Malibu to the Valley - a long drive when there's no traffic - when he picks Lucia up and drops her off. He wants a school half way between their homes."

The website has claimed Mel and Oksana who went through an acrimonious split last year are a long way from finalising the case.

Mel believes they should equally share custodial rights over Lucia. However, Oksana is "vehemently opposed" to Mel having 50 percent custody. It has been reported that Oksana's legal team are also urging her to settle with Mel, but she is proving reluctant.

Mel and Oksana have had a turbulent relationship since they became romantically involved in 2009. The pair announced their split in April last year with Oksana accusing Mel of domestic violence.

Mel pled no contest to the misdemeanour battery charges in March this year. (C) Cover Media
