(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Ne-Yo has admitted that his last album failed to inspire his fans.
The R&B crooner released his fourth studio album, Libra Scale, last year to mixed reviews. The 28-year-old had achieved mammoth success with his previous two releases, 2007s Because of You and Year of the Gentleman released the following year.
On reflection, Ne-Yo now admits Libra Scale lacked cohesion and has promised fans he will get back to basics with his next offering.
"I'm actually working on a new album as we speak. Libra Scale was a project, it was an experiment. The people that got it, got it. The people that didn't, it's all good. I got a little cool for the room, I understand that. But this next album is more about just listening to the music, vibing out, determine your own adventure, back to what it is I normally do. Be looking for that around September," he told MTV.
With the star bristling with new musical ideas, he confirmed his desire to collaborate with other artists. He cited his label mate, rapper Fabolous, as the ideal music companion for a joint effort. Ne-Yo says he will take inspiration from the Jay-Z and R. Kelly album Best of Both Worlds, released in 2002.
"We have been talking about getting in, trying to do kind of a Best of Both Worlds-type vibe situation. It's just something about his voice and my voice that makes sense together. We been kicking ideas, he added. (C) Cover Media
