The 28-year-old Australian actress portrays Sweet Pea in upcoming fantasy Sucker Punch, which tells the story of a young girl who is institutionalised by her evil stepfather and comes up with a plan to escape.

The film also stars Vanessa Hudgens, Jena Malone, Emily Browning and Jamie Chung, and is directed by Zach Snyder, with his wife Deborah Snyder working as a producer on the movie. Deborah has been impressed with the athletic abilities and courage of all the films female leads, and found it intriguing how Abbie became even bolder after sustaining a minor wound on set.

At the end of Abbies solo she got a scrape on the head from a German bayonet. But it just made her angrier; she shook it off, and after that the takes were more intense, Deborah told Empire.

Zach has spoken out about his desire to make an action movie showing females in a strong light. He didnt want there to be anything feminine about the fight scenes, as he thinks that would have made the film dull.

Each girl gets a solo fight sequence, and we designed them to be really cool and sort of genderless. I didnt want it to be just, Oh look, girls doing action; I wanted them to be fierce, he added. (C) Cover Media
