Neve Campbell happy to progress Scream role

11th April 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Neve Campbell decided to star in the new Scream movie because she felt it progressed the story.

The actress played Sidney Prescott in the original film, which hit screens in 1996. Two more movies in the franchise followed, the last of which was released in 2000. At that time Neve said she didnt think shed be reprising her role, but the fourth film will hit cinemas later this month.

The star has explained she originally didnt know whether material for another instalment would be fresh enough, but after seeing the script she knew she was wrong.

That's true, I did say that because at the time I thought we couldn't better the first three and I didn't think anyone would want to see it, she is quoted as saying. But that was ten years ago. When this came up I could see it was such a great idea to progress the story and a great script that I thought it would work and people would want to see it. So, yes, I did change my mind but for the right reasons.

The Scream franchise also stars David Arquette and Courteney Cox Arquette, and is directed by Wes Craven.

Wes has explained how important it was to him to keep the plotline a secret, revealing he wouldnt even let people read from the real script when auditioning in case there was a leak.

However, some small details are now known. Sidney returns to her home town to promote a self-help book she has written, which is when a new spate of murders occurs. (C) Cover Media
