One Direction paid in jelly beans'

24th April 2012

One Direction have laughed about Simon Cowell being "tight."

The British boy band - comprising of Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Liam Payne have been climbing the global charts with their debut album, Up All Night released on Simon's Syco record label.

Singer Niall isn't too happy with the stipends he's receiving from the music mogul.

"Simon Cowell is tight," Niall joked. "That's why he's so successful he's able to keep his money to himself. We're paid in jelly beans."

Group member Harry feels that the band puts a lot of effort into creating good music.

"We're always writing on the road and in hotels and airports," he said. "We don't ever want our music to sound like a 40-year-old man in an office has written it and given it to us to perform."

Liam hopes to retrace the footsteps of another legendary UK band.

"We did watch The Beatles' movie A Hard Day's Night recently and it was funny to see things they did that are similar to us," he shared.
