21st June 2011

(Cover) - EN Movies - Penn Badgley has joined the cast of Greetings from Tim Buckley.

The actor will play Tim Buckley's son Jeff in the indie biopic directed by Dan Algrant. The movie will focus on the days leading up to Jeff Buckley's 1991 performance at his father's tribute concert in St. Ann's church. As he begins a relationship with a young woman who is working at the concert, he comes to understand his musician father who abandoned him.

Tim died in 1977 after an overdose, while Jeff drowned in 1997.

Penn has revealed he can't wait to get to grips with the character and is honoured to have landed the role.

"To play a man who was singularly gifted as an artist, greatly misunderstood and mythologised as a human being... It's something very special and sacred," he said. "I'm going to give all I can to this project."

Greetings from Tim Buckley is being produced by Patrick Milling Smith, John N. Hart and Fred Zollo.

The movie is scheduled to begin shooting in August in New York City. (C) Cover Media
