(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Phil Collins has joked he now warns people when hes about to use knives following his hand injury.

The drummer had to have an operation after the tips of his fingers began going numb, and it was found he had injured his left arm and neck. He is still recovering, and at the moment cant play drums. The star misses playing the instrument, but says its actually the impact the injury has had on his everyday life which bothers him the most.

On the Genesis reunion tour the ends of my fingers started getting numb and I couldnt hold on to my sticks properly towards the end of the show. I thought it was natural. I had an MRI and there was lots of things wrong with my neck and left arm and we sorted them out, he explained.

Now I just have to wait. At the moment I cant play. But cutting a loaf of bread and a bit of cheese is hard... its the basic everyday things that are far more important. I have to warn people to stand back, Im cutting bread look out! Theres a knife in my hands!

The 59-year-old also spoke about his career to date, revealing he never expected to be so successful. Phil appeared on a production of Oliver! in Londons West End when he was a child, and always thought he was destined to play music in such shows.

I did have my little plan, I thought Id play in a pop group if I could and then Im play in a big band, a show band, and then end my days in the orchestra pit in the West End, he told British television show Daybreak. Because I was in Oliver when I was a kid and I used to go on the same train as those guys in the orchestra pit and I just thought that was where I would be. (C) Cover Media
