Lily Allen: Fame made me sad

14th September 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Lily Allen says being a pop star left her burnt and sad.

The singer announced she was taking a break from the music industry earlier this year, explaining she wanted to concentrate on her relationship with boyfriend Sam Cooper and other business ventures. The star has since confirmed she is expecting the couples first child, and is also launching a vintage clothing shop called Lucy In Disguise with her sister Sarah Owen.

The store is in the Covent Garden area of London, and includes lots of items from Lilys own wardrobe. People are able to buy, hire or just try on the pieces, and the venture has given the 25-year-old a new lease of life.

I feel like a naughty kids thats just dropped out of school, she laughed. People think its amazing being a pop star, but for all the good things that happen, you end up getting burnt, sad and losing a sense of who you are. I want to do something I love with real value, that will work with me having kids.

Sarah doesnt let Lily go shopping for stock for the store as she knows the star wont get the best price. She laughed whenever the singer tries to haggle the cost actually ends up rising, because people think she is rolling in cash.

Despite having to set up the store while pregnant, Lily insists she isnt stressed. She had originally planned to have a baby when things were up and running, but it didnt work out that way.

Of course I want to get married, but having a baby with someone is way more important, and were both really excited, she told the British edition of Grazia magazine. I cant say this whole thing isnt terrifying because Im taking a massive risk. Im turning away from something successful and focusing on Sam, my baby and my business. But thats what I want.
