Prince: I don't have a cell phone

24th June 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Prince doesn't own a cell phone and thinks there is nothing worse than the sound of a ring tone.

The 53-year-old American musician is one of the world's most successful recording artists, having produced ten platinum albums during his lengthy career.

The flamboyant artist is famed for being multi-talented, and his ability to write and produce as well as play his own instruments has stood him apart from many other pop stars. Prince is proud to be different, and cannot abide the current trend for digital music.

"Ringtones! Have you ever been in a room where there's 17 ringtones going off at once?" he exclaimed in British newspaper The Guardian, adding; "I don't have a phone," when asked if he has a ringtone himself.

"I personally can't stand digital music. You're getting sound in bits. It affects a different place in your brain. When you play it back, you can't feel anything. We're analogue people, not digital."

Another element of the music industry which offends Prince is cover versions. He argues that other creative industries are far less reliant on remakes and adaptations.

"There's no other art form where you can do that. You can't go and do your own version of Harry Potter. Do you want to hear somebody else sing Kiss?" he asked.

The star also took the time to consider Lady Gaga, who is arguably one of the music industry's most innovative stars right now and shares Prince's passion for flamboyant stage costumes. Prince isn't quite sure what he makes of the songstress, arguing he can't really comment without having met the star.

"I don't know. I'd have to meet her," he mused when asked of his opinion. (C) Cover Media
