Ray Davies: Rod Stewart can be brutish

26th February 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Ray Davies has revealed he stays close to his roots, unlike singer Rod Stewart.

The Kinks lead singer and 66-year-old Rod were both raised in North London. Ray is the seventh of eight children, including six older sisters and younger brother Dave, lead guitarist for The Kinks. The songwriter said he is proud of his roots, unlike other musicians in the industry.

Yeah, but you didnt see where Rod lived! His house was on the corner of a gas station on the Archway Road. Bless him. Ive got nothing against Rod. He still keeps a certain brutishness about what he does. Its these people who become expats and totally forget who they are that annoy me, he told Q magazine.

Since the demise of The Kinks in 1996, Ray has embarked on a solo career as a singer-songwriter. The 66-year-old has had a tempestuous relationship with younger brother Dave that dominated the Kinks' career.

Ray has admitted that the traditional alcoholic drink of bitter suits peoples attitude in Britain as he believes their reputation of maintaining a sour attitude is true.

[The name of the drink bitter] suits us Brits perfectly. In Cornwall theyve even got a drink called Doom [Doom Bar Bitter]. It implies a certain national characteristic. Stiff upper lip and all that. Its very British. Were very good at being bitter, he added. (C) Cover Media
