Remembering Pancham da on his 73rd Birthday

An iconic singer, Rahul Dev Burman (R. D. Burman) is very much remembered on his birthday. He is considered as one of the seminal music directors of Indian cinema.

Born in Kolkata, Burman attended St. Joseph's school. He started composing music at the age of nine. His first song was 'Aye meri topi palat ke aa' and then later 'Sar jo tera chakraaye'.

When Rahul moved to Mumbai, he was trained by Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and Samta Prasad. Some of the well-known films that R. D. has worked for are 'Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi', 'Kaagaz Ke Phool', 'Tere Ghar Ke Samne' and many more.

R. D. Burman is very famous with Kishor Kumar's songs in movies starring Rajesh Khanna. He has been credited for revolutionizing the Bollywood music. Burman often mixed disco and rock elements with Bengali folk music.

The great singer and composer died on 4th January, 1994. He was married to Asha Bhosle then.

Even after his death, his music is still used for the latest movies where they are remixed and rewamped upon.

The Bollywood industry still remembers this dynamic lover of music.
