13th November 2010

November 13, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Film:Dunno YNa Jaane Kyon Review

Starring: Yuvraaj Parasher, Zeenat Aman, Kabir Bedi, Helen, Maradona Rebello, Kapil Sharma and Hazel.

Director: Sanjay Sharma

Rating: 1.5 out of 5.

You must have waited for a long time for the movie to get released and too much hype around it urged you think to watch the film as soon as possible. However, if you have not yet watched the film then you fall under the group of those intelligent viewers who will instead spent their money on some fun with family during the weekend rather that watching the film.

There is no need to tell anybody what the movie is all about because the subject of the movie has been in news for quite some time now. The very sensitive issue of homosexuality has been completely gone in waste and it seems like an amateurish direction and script writing by Sanjay Sharma and Kapil Sharma respectively.

Talented actors like Kabir Bedi, Zeenat Aman and Helen have been totally wasted in the movie. The hype was simply a way to attract the audience but when you watch the movie, you will repeatedly say 'Dunno YNa Jaane Kyon'.You will wonder what is happening with the storyline because it comes so haphazard.

Kapil Sharma, who plays the lead character of Ashley is a gay in the film but he is married to Rituparna Sengupta, who in turn is romantically involved with Ashleys brother Sam (Maradona Rebello). Ashley has an extra-marital affair with a male prostitute (Yuvraaj Parasher) so his wife is frustrated with that.

On the other hand, Helen as the head of the family has some lung bursting dialogues that do not suit her image. Her son Peter (Kabir Bedi) leaves the family to take shelter in an ashram and his wife is left with no other option but to maintain her figure for the rich men to churn money for the family. But then what is the logic of a forty plus mom sleeping with other men when she has two sons and a young daughter-in-law?

This can be termed as a bad cinema and nothing else which plays with the LGBT issues in such an immature way. The presence of sexy actresses like Helen and Zeenat also could not give it a much needed lift.

It looks very funny when a top actor calls the prostitute his stress buster while taking a bubble bath. They took a serious issue to deal with but ended up making it a clumsy and funny film, so dont spoil your weekend watching the movie. Its better to buy a DVD if you are so interested to get confused!
