Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma's upcoming biopic on the dreaded forest brigand Veerapan is marred with controversy as a petition has been filed in the Madras High Court seeking a stay on the film on the grounds that it is full of false information about the dacoit and also that it shows the Tamilians in a bad light.

Petitioner Paneerselvi has alleged that the film is creating law and order problems in Tamil Nadu due to its false content and has filed the petition seeking a stay on the film.

Paneerselvi has further alleged that the film has shown Tamilians, especially women in a bad light, has degraded Tamil police and politicians and has also falsely depicted the wife of Veerappan as having killed several persons.
