Robert Pattinson: I won't sell my personal life

15th August 2012

Robert Pattinson is not interested in "selling" his personal life.

The actor has continued to remain tight-lipped about his girlfriend Kristen Stewart's affair with married director Rupert Sanders.

Appearing on TV show Good Morning America on Wednesday, the Twilight star said he was first and foremost an actor, not a celebrity.

"I've never been interested in trying to sell my personal life," he told host George Stephanopoulos when asked if the key to surviving in the public eye is to remain silent about scandals. "You get into [this business] to do movies. That's the only way to do it."

Robert also said that it is dangerous to court media attention and that stars who believe their own hype are foolish.

The 26-year-old explained that while the global interest in him can be exciting, he feels like he needs some time out every now and again.

With his personal life under intense scrutiny as the world awaits an announcement on the status of his relationship with Kristen, it is likely that Robert feels like he could do with a break right now.

"If you start getting used to [the attention], it means you're going crazy," he said. "It's nice. It's like being on the craziest theme park ride. It's exciting but eventually you have to have a break."

While Robert was presented with ice cream during his interview with Jon Stewart earlier this week, he received his favourite cereal on Good Morning America.

"It's only 30 calories. I'm going to take the whole box," Robert quipped as he accepted the Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

The show's host George then attempted to address the status of his relationship with Kristen.

"How are you doing and what do you want your fans to know about your personal life?" he asked.

"[My fans] seem pretty excited about kind of whatever I'd like my fans to know Cinnamon Toast Crunch only has 30 calories a bowl!" Robert stammered as he looked slightly flustered.

"Pretty much everything that comes out of my mouth is pretty much irrelevant," he laughingly added.
