(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Robert Pattinson has expressed interest' in playing Jeff Buckley in a second project focusing on the musician.

Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley has just been cast as the legendary singer-songwriter in new movie Greetings from Tim Buckley, but there is another, as yet untitled, film about the star in the making.

Producers Michelle Sy and Orian Williams are currently "in the midst of casting" and confirmed they have been talking to the Twilight Star about the role.

"Rob has expressed interest in the project and we did meet with him," Michelle told OK! magazine. "There are some actors who make sense, but it's easier to believe when it's more of an unknown. We're exploring all options, everyone from big name actors to newcomers to musicians. In real life Jeff was a goofball, his friends told us to look for a young Jim Carrey. But we just want to find the right person with the right soul."

The filmmakers said that they are also looking for an actress to portray Buckley's love interest, but they will only make a decision once they have cast the musician.

They also insisted that while the cast will be announced soon, they are not hiring big names for the sake of attracting an audience.

"There will be a love interest, but we won't cast her until after we have figured out who will be playing Jeff. It will depend on how old the actor is who is cast and who would be an appropriate choice to play opposite him," they added. "We only have one chance to do this and we want to do it right. We're not casting to justify financing, we're casting to justify a life." (C) Cover Media
