Rosamund Pike: Hoffman made me cry

14th January 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Dustin Hoffman stared at Rosamund Pike for so long on the set of their new film he made her cry.

The actress plays Miriam in Barneys Version, about the life of Barney Panofsky, portrayed by Paul Giamatti. Miriam is Barneys soulmate, and as such is presented as if she is perfect. Rosamund was worried that might make her unappealing to audiences, but has been amazed by how well she was received.

Dustin portrays Barneys father Izzy, and Rosamund was disappointed she didnt get to appear in more scenes alongside him. The Hollywood star made up for that when the cameras werent rolling though, by showing her how important it is to be close to those shes working with.

Dustin and I didnt get a lot of face time, except one bit of very close face time, where he stared into my eyes incredibly closely until we both started crying and said, Thats intimacy, and sort of walked off, she said. But hes right! Working with Paul, we were able to be really intimate, and its not about touching or sex scenes, its about the ability to look someone for real in the face. Really looking at someone and being able to see their soul.

Rosamund, 31, appeared in 2002 James Bond movie Die Another Day, but since then has chosen to star smaller films. She worries she may not always have picked the best roles, but says she wasnt confident enough to try out for things she really wanted when she was younger.

Ive probably been a bit nave with my career, she told WWD. I wasnt ambitious enough in my early 20s, or I felt it was rather sort of unseemly to go out there and present myself. You do a Bond film and youre known by everybody but respected by very few. I didnt want to put myself out there until I knew people really wanted to see me. Now seems a good time to take it to the next level. Im in it for the long haul. (C) Cover Media
