Relatives of the reality star who committed suicide last month are said to be keen to ensure the father-of-three is not portrayed in a negative light.
The lawyer representing Russell's parents, Ron Richards, told TMZ that they wanted to watch the show to make sure that nothing that "would make Russell look bad" was shown.
Ron says the family is open to pursuing legal avenues if they see something they do not agree with.
Russell's estranged wife Taylor Armstrong is said to be devastated at the tragedy but is just focusing on looking after the former couple's five-year-old daughter Kennedy.
Three of the stars of the show appeared on the Today show yesterday to talk about the upcoming season and how their cast mate Taylor is doing.
Adrienne Maloof, Kyle Richards and Lisa Vanderpump said they were all shocked when they heard Russell had hanged himself but they did not believe the show was to blame.
The show's executive producer Douglas Ross revealed that he had "made some adjustments" to how much of Russell would be seen and that the financier will not be shown on the first few episodes.
The cast spoke about the tragic suicide and were interviewed in the season opener which aired last night. (C) Cover Media
