Shashi Kapoor conferred with Dadasaheb Phalke Award

Mumbai's Prithvi Theatre was brimming with Kapoors from Bollywood’s first family on May 10 when the veteran actor of yesteryears, Shashi Kapoor received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honor in Indian Cinema.

The 77-year-old actor is the third member of his illustrious family to receive the award after father, Prithviraj Kapoor and elder brother, Raj Kapoor.

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister, Arun Jaitley presented the award to Mr. Shashi Kapoor whose film career spans over 40 years.

Ranbir and his father, Rishi Kapoor gave introductory speeches as ceremony begun. Rishi revealed that Shashi Kapoor was the only director, who used a cane on the sets to discipline his actors. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated Shashi Kapoor tweeting, "It was wonderful seeing the versatile & much admired Shashi Kapoor-ji being presented the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Congratulations to him."
