(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Sigourney Weaver doesnt think her iconic role in Alien had a feminist agenda.

The 61-year-old actress was praised for her role as Ripley in Ridley Scotts 1979 smash-hit about a mining ship which lands on a faraway planet and explores life there.

At the time Sigourney was heralded as a feminist icon because her character in the movie was so strong and courageous, but she feels the decision was artistic rather than political.

"I don't think it was a feminist decision, I think it was more of a story decision," she told New York Daily News.

"That no one would ever anticipate that this young woman would end up being the hero of the piece."

Sigourney is currently promoting Alien Anthology, a new Blu-Ray box set which features all the Alien movies and plenty of special features. One of the DVD highlights is the chance to see footage from the movie stars original Alien screen test. Sigourney isnt proud of her audition, and the modest star thinks inspiring actors watching it will be encouraged to pursue their dreams.

"I work with a lot of young actors that are at the Theater of the Flea in Downtown New York," she explained.

"Well, I thought for their sake, let them see how lame my screen test was. I was very lucky to get the part." (C) Cover Media
