Simon Pegg reveals Christmas disappointment

25th October 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Simon Pegg was horrified when his mother gave him a set of flannel duvet covers for his Christmas present when he was 28.

The actor admits the bedding was a much-needed gift, but at the time he didnt really appreciate it. He had been hoping to receive the latest computer game console, and couldnt believe it when he opened the lavishly-wrapped gift to find several sheets.

My mum bought me some flannel duvet covers for Christmas once. It was a great present, I needed it, I was 28 and my duvet was unwashed, but at the time I just thought, I want an Xbox, Simon laughed.

The now 40-year-old star has got used to receiving strange gifts, as his fans often present him with unusual items. Simon was in 2009 movie Star Trek, and finds followers of that movie are particularly outspoken.

I love the fact theres this kind of unbridled enthusiasm, he said on UK programme Daybreak. Theres no cynicism or they dont feel the need to cover it up, its just so joyous. Its lovely to work in the fantasy realm because the fans are totally honest.

Simon stars in new movie Burke and Hare alongside Andy Serkis. Andy is well known for his portrayal of Gollum in the Lord of the Rings movies, and found that part brought him a host of new fans too.

I had this one experience in Disneyland where this lovely young Mexican girl grabbed hold of my neck and wouldnt let go, he laughed. About 15 of her family then tried to pull her off, and there was this kind of fight as they tried to get her off.

Burke and Hare is about two 19th century men who provided medical professionals with dead bodies. (C) Cover Media
