Snoop Dogg was arrested over the weekend for drug possession.
The rapper, real name Calvin Broadus, was on a tour bus travelling though Texas when the vehicle was pulled over at a border patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca.
A drug-sniffing dog then came on board the bus and found marijuana, TMZ reports.
The site claims that the border patrol undertook a standard inspection of the vehicle when the dog alerted the agents that there was something of interest in a trash can in the back of the bus.
The agents allegedly found a red prescription bottle with several marijuana joints inside and contained under half of an ounce of the drug.
Authorities said that Snoop admitted the marijuana was his. Although the 40-year-old performer has a prescription for cannabis in California, there is a zero tolerance policy for the drug in Texas.
Snoop was issued a citation for misdemeanor drug possession and released but could spend up to 180 days in jail if he is convicted.
Ironically, the arrest happened in the small town of West Texas where singer Willie Nelson was arrested for marijuana in 2010 and Snoop rallied for the elderly performer.
"They better leave Willie the f*** alone," Snoop said at the time.
