Sony Music 'finalise Dr. Luke deal'

3rd August 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Dr. Luke, who has worked with stars including Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus, is reportedly set to "breathe new life" into Sony Music.

The global record company has been seeing some changes recently, with American music mogul Doug Morris becoming chairman just last month.

According to New York Post, Doug is finalising a five-year deal to create a new company with coveted producer Dr. Luke, which sources are claiming could be worth up to $60 million.

"Doug Morris' latest prescription to breathe new life into Sony Music is to get a doctor in the house," reports the publication.

Dr. Luke, real name Lukasz Gottwald, is the man behind a host of hits such as Miley's Party in the U.S.A. and California Gurls by Katy.

Apparently Dr. Luke's label, Kemosabe Entertainment, is already based at Sony's RCA Records, although a new deal would expand his role significantly.

A source told New York Post that Doug wants to make Dr. Luke "his new Jimmy Iovine".

Jimmy is famed for mentoring on season ten of American Idol, and has championed acts such as Eminem and Lady Gaga.

"I want to see some radical thinkers and some radical hires," Doug was quoted as saying when he took over at Sony.

A spokesperson for Sony has said; "There is no deal", while Dr. Luke's representatives have not responded to requests for comment. (C) Cover Media
