Stewart and Pattinson make public appearances

7th September 2012

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson both made high-profile public appearances last night, although at different events.

The two stars have been largely under the radar since Kristen admitted to having an affair with married film director Rupert Sanders, apparently causing the end of her relationship with Robert.

She was at the Toronto Film Festival to promote her new movie On the Road yesterday, marking her first public appearance since the news broke.

Kristen appeared nervous at the event held at the Ryerson Theatre, opting to wear a floral Zuhair Murad dress with chiffon detailing. Although she was pensive, the crowd showed her some support. Her fans could be heard shouting, "We love you Kristen!" as she posed with her co-star Garrett Hedlund.

The actress was delighted with the reception and spent time meeting and greeting those who had waited to see her, even hugging some fans. She was particularly interested in one banner, which read: "Talent, Beauty, Strength and Courage - We stand by Kristen always (sic)."

She also signed autographs and admitted she was as excited about the movie's launch as she was when promoting the Twilight franchise.

Robert chose to step out at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) in Los Angeles. He appeared alongside his Twilight co-stars including Taylor Lautner, Peter Facinelli and Ashley Greene to preview a new promo for the upcoming final instalment in the vampire series The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2.

He seemed relaxed and happy and was seen laughing and joking with the others stars backstage.

"It's been an amazing journey and we'd like to thank all the fans of the series for your incredible enthusiasm from the beginning until now," Robert told the crowd.

Taylor added: "For over four years we've been working together as a family on the Twilight films and this year is the epic finale."

The movie hits cinemas in November and sees Kristen's character Bella as a vampire. Fans got a glimpse of how she will appear in the trailer and saw her using her new powers to fight a lion.

"My time as a human is over," Bella says, "but I've never felt more alive."

Comedian Kevin Hart hosted the annual ceremony and decided to touch on the scandal surrounding Robert and Kristen. He called the incident "the elephant in the room" and tried to make light of it.

"Everybody's mad at Kristen Stewart for making a mistake. She allegedly messed around with the director of Snow White and the Huntsman. If she did, so what? It's over. Move on. Look on the bright side, they're now a part of the seven dwarfs. You've got sleepy, grumpy, adultery, cheating," he said. "The point that I'm making is this, if you made a mistake so what!"
