The White Stripes confirm split

3rd February 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - The White Stripes have announced that they have split up.

The American rock duo, comprising Jack White and his ex-wife Meg White, formed in Detroit 13 years ago and went on to release six studio albums.

They first attracted attention with their albums White Blood Cells and Elephant, and their final album Icky Thump was released in 2007 winning a Grammy award for best alternative music album.

Singer-songwriter Jack and drummer Meg released a statement on their website yesterday saying the group "has officially ended and will make no further new recordings or perform live".

The pair revealed they had decided to call it a day for a myriad of reasons adding they wanted to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band.

Jack and Meg also insisted they remain on good terms and have asked their fans not to be upset by their decision, instead to treat it as a positive move.

The reason is not due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues as both Meg and Jack [White] are feeling fine and in good health, the statement continued.

Their most famous tracks included Hotel Yorba, Fell In Love With A Girl and Seven Nation Army. (C) Cover Media
