Theron was maniac' in early career

13th January 2012

Charlize Theron "looked like a maniac" at her first audition.

The stunning Young Adult actress worked hard to land her early roles.

Whilst vying for a part in the 1996 film 2 Days in the Valley, Charlize was determined to get the attention of casting executives.

"I looked like a maniac," Charlize gushed in the February issue of W magazine. "It was a dying scene, so I barged through the door and started crawling on the floor. I remember I was in a catsuit. I had never auditioned before, and I almost brought a bottle of ketchup and squirted it all over myself for the scene where I got shot. I think they were too scared not to give me the role."

Charlize has since won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster. The superstar identified with Aileen, as she felt awkward at points in her youth.

"For the first eight years of my life, I didn't have front teeth," Charlize revealed. "I was pretty sick as an infant, and antibiotics rotted them. But then I started to take dance class, and I eventually got some teeth."

Charlize has been nominated for a Golden Globe Award in the Best Actress category for her work as Mavis Gary in 2011 comedy Young Adult.

The Golden Globe Awards will be held this Sunday.
