Toni Braxton hospitalised for lupus

13th January 2012

Toni Braxton suffered a "lupus flare-up" this week.

The Breathe Again singer experienced pain from the skin condition and was admitted to hospital.

Lupus is a rare form of tuberculosis of the skin that causes brownish swellings that hurt and heal slowly.

Toni is grateful for the good wishes she has received from fans and loved ones.

"I wanted to say thanks to all my fans for their support, as I have been experiencing some flare ups with my lupus which has me in the hospital for a few days," Toni told TMZ.

Although in pain, Toni knows that she will feel 100 per cent better once her ulcers heal.

"I wanted to clear the record before rumours started, and will totally be fine as I'm blessed to having an amazing family for support," Toni said.

In November 2010 Toni shared that she suffered from the autoimmune disease.

It is hereditary as her brother also shares the condition and her uncle died from lupus complications.

Lupus can affect many areas of the body, including skin, kidneys, joints, blood cells, the heart and lungs.

It is unknown when Toni will be released from hospital.
