Velmurugan Breaks Free From Folk Singer Shackles

4th December 2010

December 4, 2010 (Sampurn Wire):South Indian playback singer Velmurugan is a very happy man these days. And why shouldnt he be considering that his dream has come true. In a statement to the media, Velmurugan says that ever since he entered the Kollywood industry, it had always been dream to sing for a superstar in the Tamil film industry and now that Velmurugan has matched his voice with that of Dhanush for an upcoming Tamil flick, the playback singer cannot help celebrating his luck and achievement. Velmurugan will next be heard crooning to the Otha Sollala track from his upcoming film Aadukalam.

And with Otha Sollala the Tamil playback singer has firmly broken free from the barriers of folk singing that he was tied to during the early phase of his career. It was always the wish of Velmurugan to do something different from the standard folk songs that he was normally offered, so when the offer to sing Otha Sollala came to him, he could not resist the offer. And though the singer is more than 50 songs old in Kollywood, he was still nervous before recording Otha Sollala to be voiced by actor Dhanush in Aadukalam.

While speaking to the media, Velmurugan says that it was the low pitch to be used for the Otha Sollala song that troubled him the most. In fact, the singer took the time out to rehearse for the song before belting it out for the recording studios! From his statements it is apparent that Velmurugan is very dedicated towards his art and since he has shown so much excitement at singing for a Tamil star, Aadukalam may well be his gateway to matching voices to a number of other stars after Dhanush.
