(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Vera Farmiga grew up with a deep appreciation for her Ukrainian roots.

The 37-year-old actress was born and raised in the US, although both her parents are Ukrainian and its very important to the star that she never loses sight of her legacy. As much as she feels proud to have been brought up in America, Vera adores learning about Ukrainian culture, and says her family have done their best to ensure she maintains tradition.

My grandparents made sure that we grew up with a deep appreciation for our heritage, explained the star.

Vera initially found it tough adapting to American society, as she was raised in a close-knit Ukrainian-American community. The star didnt speak English until the age of six, but was soon on her way to becoming the articulate actress she is today. Veras steely determination has helped her though lifes challenges and shes happy to say shes never been walked over.
