Vidya Balan as Indira Gandhi in upcoming web series

12th January 2018

After a stellar performance in 'Tumhari Sulu', Vidya Balan is ready to play India's former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi based on the book of journalist-author Sagarika Ghose's "Indira: India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister".

On Tuesday, the national award winner said, "I am happy to have acquired the rights to Sagarika Ghose's "Indira: India's Most Powerful Prime Minister because I have always wanted to play Indira Gandhi. I haven't decided yet whether it should be a film or a web series, but that will take a while anyway, It was Ghose who seem very much excited about signing the contract and shared the news by tweeting, "Most excited to see 'Indira' on-screen!"

She also called Vidya an "Ace". The book is published by Juggernaut Books and is a biographical portrait that unfolds the answers to some serious questions. As from why Indira Gandhi revoked the Emergency to her son Sanjay Gandhi's curious grip over her? From her bad marriage and love affairs to her dangerous religious politics, everything will be presented in an open-ended drama.

In other tweets, Sagarika also revealed that she thinks that adapting the book to a web series would also be a good option, considering something like Netflix's 'The Crown' and 'House of Cards'. The book was also presented to the publishers of the film and screen community at the World to Screen Market 2017.

Sagarika officially announced on Facebook saying, ''Elated to announce that I just signed the contract for the movie rights of my book, "Indira, India's Most Powerful Prime Minister" with Vidya Balan and Roy Kapur Productions. Most excited to see "Indira" on screen''
