Vijay lands in a controversy

7th May 2012

The Pattali Makkal Katchi (P.M.K.) and the organisations supporting it are always known for their stand against smoking on screen. They even opposed Superstar Rajinikanth during the release of 'Baba', a decade ago.

Now, Pasumai Thayagam, which is headed by P.M.K. leader Anbumani Ramadoss's wife Sowmya Anbumani, has opposed the 'first look' posters of Vijay starrer 'Thuppakki', which featured the actor holding a cigar in his hand.

In a statement, Sowmya said that the posters are not only a violation but also punishable under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Product Act.

'The film has violated Section 9(2) of the notification issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, which states that promotional materials and posters of films and television programmes shall not depict any tobacco products or their usage in any form,' she said.

Sowmya added that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issued a notification last year with certain amendments to show the actual act of smoking on screen.

Well, we hope this doesn't land the actor in any more trouble.
